Objective

Equip participants with the technical knowledge of operating Lynda.com and the pedagogical knowledge associated with using instructional videos in courses. The goal is for instructors to be prepared to introduce Lynda.com videos into their courses the semester following completion of this faculty learning community.

Description

Lynda.com Course Integration is a type of professional development called a Faculty Learning Community (FLC). In short, this training will emphasize learning a new skill alongside other faculty members and building relationships with colleagues from various backgrounds and disciplines. Together, attendees will have the opportunity to collaborate, challenge, and support one another while growing in their understanding of Lynda.com as an instructional tool.

This FLC will be facilitated by Keegan, an educational technologist from the Center for Teaching Excellence. As a facilitator, Keegan will engage each faculty member in individualized instruction to stimulate growth of Lynda.com knowledge while maintaining the learning objectives of the FLC for the entire cohort.

At the beginning of this FLC, participants will focus on learning to use Lynda.com from a technical standpoint. Once foundational knowledge of Lynda.com is established, attendees will start applying their technical skills while learning the pedagogical components of implementing video into the classroom. Together, knowledge of both operation and implementation of Lynda.com will empower faculty to effectively integrate Lynda.com into their courses. Finally, participants will also have the opportunity to view video analytics for students in their courses.

To practice and apply the material from this training, participants will complete a Lynda.com Course Integration Project. This is a curriculum development project intended for the semester following this training course. For instance, faculty who participate in this training during the fall will be able to implement their project during the spring. Moreover, each faculty member will have the support of their facilitator during the curriculum development process as well as opportunities to receive feedback on their work. Altogether, the scope of each instructor’s project will be determined by themselves and the feedback from their facilitator.
